Footage From Clearwater Beach
April 23, 2009 - 12:44pm
Check out some random chill cam footage from our trip through Panama City and on to the first day of Clearwater Beach.
Greetings From Clearwater Beach
April 22, 2009 - 12:56pm
After nearly 24 hours of traveling and taking a quick tour through Panama City on a layover, we are finally in Clearwater Beach. Internet is kind of sketchy and no one's phone works. We can't use credit card and after only one day, a few of us are already concerned about running out of money. Good times ahead for sure. Updates coming soon.
Name Is Pfife Dog From The Zulu Nation
April 21, 2009 - 10:26am
All I can think of is Tribe Called Quest lyrics when I hear Zulu Nation. Schaefer has a crazy chill cam dump from the Zulu: Dirty Bird Does Africa. Dirty Bird now has a final resting place in the Zulu Nation.
Time Check
April 20, 2009 - 5:20pm
Check out footage from last year's $420 on 4/20 at 4:20pm at the Bro Bowl and Colin Clark's Minneapolis Damn Am trailer. The date is May 29 - 31 for that contest, not the other incorrect date that I just emailed to my entire address book. Sorry if you got that one.
Link Out With Your Chink Out
April 20, 2009 - 4:33pm
Here's some stuff from around the electric jungle: Pat Stiener has footage in the Hi Fi Wheels Promo among other Floridians like Ben Gore and Brian Delatorre. I sure enjoy talking mad crap on the inter-web thing and so does Pat. You can also see Pat play a game of skate over Josh Stewart's site. Over at that one place that never sent me my butteryasstee but did however include a free ghetto gown with my last order of a Steve Berra deck, SPoT locals Josiah and Jacob Portillo made it to a Skate or Dice Game. I like to do spy orders on other mail order sites, then copy them, then improve on what they're doing. You know, kind of like every skate shoe company that's ever existed. If you want to get all bid'niss, check out an interview with me, Ryan Clements, and Barak Wiser about all the behind the scenes stuff that goes on here to make SPoT run. See SPoT run. Run SPoT, run. They edited the interview down and excluded my fantastic tax advice. Oh well, I'll share that with you in another post. And finally, don't forget the old News Watcher Page. By the time you're done with all that, it should be about 20 minutes past the fourth hour of the afternoon on the 20th day of the fourth month of the year. That's when you call it a day. See you in Clearwater Beach.
I Hear They Have Great Cigars In Clearwater Beach
April 20, 2009 - 3:06pm
We just
packed up a few hundred pounds of skate stuff to bring to that one illegal island off the coast of Florida. Actually, it's really just Clearwater Beach. I'm going use my expert Photoshop skills to modify all my photos to make it look like we went to that one island. We aren't really going there tomorrow morning.
Put A Shirt On Before Filming
April 17, 2009 - 9:17pm
The Maloof Money Cup Search For Ams is about to end if you're still trying to get a spot in that event.
A Very Polite And Positive Giveaway
April 17, 2009 - 5:17pm
Mike Sinclair from Dekline wrote all the choices for this new Dekline This or That Giveaway, so that means you don't get any awkward homosexual conundrums this time. You can win one of five pairs of Deklines they hooked up. You have until the end of the month on this one.
He Skated In Public?
April 17, 2009 - 12:55pm
Porpe took some photos while I was gone for the DVS Demo last week. Mikemo was here!
Problems With The Flux Capacitor
April 17, 2009 - 9:51am
The site's been sketchy for the last couple days. Sorry about the errors you may have been getting. It think it may be fixed now just in time for our sale. Nearly 2,000 products have been discounted a grand total of $14,855. Here's the full list of them all sorted by price or sorted by company.
You're welcome.
Jordan Price Loves The Camera
April 16, 2009 - 5:39pm
I think if the Fuel TV photo booth at Tampa Pro had a more private location, these photos would be much more spicy. Maybe we'll have one at the Damn Man. Anyway, they sent over this link to all the photos.
Back When Graphics Mattered
April 16, 2009 - 4:26pm
Maybe Clem forgot that back in 2005 he had his name on a board? Nah, that wasn't real, this one was though. It's a short story about a board from back when we first started skating and there was this company called Life Skateboards.
I Keep Getting Older But They Stay The Same Age
April 16, 2009 - 3:14pm
It's about time for the Damn Man, an Am Contest for gown ups. 21 and up only, no sobers allowed, nekkid trophy girls, no rules for the DJ, no rules for the MC, single moms only, and cigarettes for prizes. Well, until that happens, we have kids in top am contests like Damn Am getting younger and younger. I usually have the super baby tykes wait before they step up to Damn Am, but here's an exception. Check out Alex Midler's footage that got him a spot. Was your switch push that smooth when you were one decade old? Shirtless dudes, time to step it up.
If You're On Two Wheels Instead Of Four
April 16, 2009 - 2:40pm
Way back before I left, there was a BMX Contest here. Check out photos on this site: DigBMX.com.
What Happened To The Mongolians?
April 16, 2009 - 12:29pm
Gub'ment Cheese Comes In Many Forms
April 16, 2009 - 10:24am
I heard a bunch of racket in Downtown Tampa outside my door yesterday. When I skated through to see what was going on, I found some silly tax protesters with clown pants. Wow. That's enough politics for me. On a lighter note, check out
Jacob Portillo's Gatorade sticker. I'm working on the Spring Roll Contest Results and Photos now, so those will be up soon.
Public Service Announcement
April 16, 2009 - 8:48am
If you have a skateboard company "out the trunk", that's cool and good luck. But, if you meet any of these criteria, just go ahead and
give it up and flip burgers so you have more time to actually skate:
1. It's named with a "clever" way to spell a stupid word.
2. You have your website on any of your graphics.
3. You have myspace links on every email you send.
4. Your hometown hero is your pro.
Yep, There's Ice There
April 15, 2009 - 4:54pm
I had a much needed keyboard break and am now back to a mountain of email and watching footage of shirtless dudes trying to get into Damn Am. There's a little skate scene all the way up there in Iceland along with some amazing closeness to true nature. It's good to be back and warm and electronic, though. Here are a few photos from my adventure: An Icelandic Chill Cam Dump.
Maybe I should bring my skateboard to the next crazy place. How about Cuba? Isn't it illegal to go there? No way,
I'm definitely not going to Cuba with a large crew of fellow skateboard pals to give away tons of skateboards to the kids there because their scene is way worse than the one you have in your town that you complain about. That would be nuts, especially with loyal reader Officer Doofy on dootie. Maybe I can just go to Clearwater Beach and use Photoshop to make it look like Cuba. Sounds like a plan. More on that next week.
Never A Bad Time To Do Some Good
April 14, 2009 - 4:14pm
Skatepark of Tampa supporter and local artist, Chad Cardoza, produced quite a work of art for this year's Tampa Pro. Then he took the time to get it signed by several top dogs during the Pro weekend. And you know Chad's style...always doing something good, so that's why you can bid on it right here for the chance to make that piece part of your collection. Of course all of the money is going to the Johnny Romano Fund, too. That how Chad do.
No All Ages Coverage
April 13, 2009 - 6:23pm
I'm sure you're wondering where the All Ages coverage is, right? Well, with Rob out of town it takes a bit longer. How much longer? Until he gets back. Makes sense to me. Derewenko shot a bunch of photos though, so those and the full Results will be posted upon Rob's return, which I think is Wednesday. For now, here are the winners from the Divisions: Niko Howard took 8&Under, William Penniman snagged 9-12, Anthony Henderson dominated 13-15, Max Catasus' killed it in 16&Up, and you might be surprised that Timmy Knuth skated so well in Sponsored that he could have placed top 10 in Tampa Pro. Or maybe you're not that surprised. We might have to retire Timmy from the All Ages Contests in the near future.
